500px Editors Choice

It’s already long time ago when I received my first 500px Editors Choice on July 04th, 2015 for Elise staying lonely at the Mesquite dunes in Death Valley National Park. This photo received finally a pulse of 98.4 and reached more than 8000 views and more than 450 likes.

Racetrack Valley

Amazing wonder of nature, but heavily to access. You can access the road towards Racetrack Valley from the Ubehebe Crater in the North. But then the adventure begins. The unpaved road down to Racetrack Valley is painful for your shock absorber. For those 26 miles you will need two hours, so take your time.
This photo spot is located on a public place and can be accessed 24/7. But please, do not enter the racetrack if it is wet, otherwise you will destroy this beautiful nature and leave footprints for hundreds of years.

Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat at sunrise is amazing. A must on each bucket-list. The shape of the buildings in the early morning is a dream, plus the perfect reflection in the lakes. But, it is also the most crowded place while sunrise we every been. Amazing how many people are waiting at the mirror lakes in front of Angkor Wat to see the sun rising. Being 15 minutes after opening hour there and you will not find any space at the lake (a least not on the left lake).
There are two mirror lakes when you enter Angkor Wat, decided which one you want to take. The right lake is a bit less crowded.
This photo spot is located within the temple area and can be accessed at around 5am up to sunset. Check the opening hours when preparing, it might change dependent on season. Plan to be few minutes before opening at the gate, to find the right spot.

Vernazza

To get a good view over Vernazza, you have to walk up the mountain. The path leads from the center through many small alleys via a beaten track to the photo spot. It’s not hard to find. Since the ideal spot only has space for some photographers, you should be there early depending on the season and weather.

Colosseum View

After our visit of the Colosseum we went to this location. A perfect place for portraits and selfies with the majestic Colosseum in the background. This location can easily be reached via the underground entry on the north side of the Colosseum. Just go up the stairs and you will arrive directly at the Via Nicola Salvi. This place is very crowded during the day, so plan a bit time for your shots.
This photo spot is located at a public street and can be accessed 24/7.

Colosseum

The morning I was shooting the Colosseum in Rome, the sunrise was not as spectacular as on the other days – when I was at the Forum Romanum. But the light conditions were very harmonic which is reflected after post-processing in the final picture. Around sunrise is the best time to shoot as there are no people around and I had time and space to setup my stuff.
This photo spot is located at a public street and can be accessed 24/7.

Forum Romanum

During our vacation in Rome, I was lucky to witness this amazing golden hour (November 03rd, 2017). The typical sunrise shot, when the sun is still not up, was not working that morning, because it was by far too cloudy. But I didn’t want to give up and stayed where I was, even though it was freezing cold. The golden hour was spectacular and getting up early was well worth it in the end.

Ponte Umberto

We spend three sunsets at the bridge “Ponte Umberto” during our vacation in Rome between October 30th and November 03rd, 2017. For these shots I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens. Each of three days was completely different. In my opinion the focal length around 70 mm worked quite well. These final pictures consist of an overlay of two shots made at different times. The first shot during golden hour and the second one at blue hour, when the beautiful lights came up.
The bridge is public and can be accessed 24/7.

Myanmar

Myanmar was the first Southeast Asian country we visited. That’s why we were pretty nervous prior to the journey, but as we arrived there, we instantly fell in love with this wonderful country and the kindhearted people.

During our time in Myanmar, we had a tight program that took us to different places all over the country: the charming cities Yangon and Mandalay with their surroundings, the beautiful ancient city of Bagan, a short and cooling stay in Kalaw, and the impressive and relaxing Inle Lake.

We compiled a few impressions of our journey in March 2016 and hope we can inspire some of you to visit this great place that has so much to offer…

Cambodia

We decided to spend new year in Cambodia. It was a great decision. We fell in love with this country. Not only the amazing temples let us feel like this, it was more the kindness of the people living here.

The first few days we spend exploring the temples by ourself and chilling at the 200 m long pool of the fantastic Angkor Village Resort. After new year, we went on a guided 4-day tour with Régis Binard from Angkor Travel Photography, which was great as we got to know places away from the tourist trails. We can fully recommend this tour! Get in love with the country, meet locals and improve your photography skills.

It’s very easy to move around in Siem Reap by yourself. You can find a tuktuk or taxi everywhere on the street or book it at the hotel. The driver will carry you the whole day from sunrise to sunset. Or you can rent a bike, if you want to be more active.

Enjoy our impressions below…
